Afternoon network soap-operas were interrupted to carry the image. Soon, the video was on nearly every channel. Everyone in front of a television had no choice but to watch. Quickly they wanted to see nothing else. Soon after they called friends and family to make sure they were watching too. It was not something to miss. Stations scrambled to find any scientist, zoologist, astronaut, or religious figure they could get on a phone, or better yet in studio, to comment on the images.

Most think of the GIANT as a fairy tale. Something their mothers told them one night when they could not sleep. In the glowing light of dusk most anything seems possible. Their mothers were told the same story by parents who remembered the tale from their childhood. A story so removed from the source no one considers it true. It is only natural that people would think the GIANT a creature of fantasy.

Promptly the next morning, the White House press secretary released a statement saying, among other things, that the area had been secured so that proper scientific study could be conducted. Also, they would release more images, information, and findings as they occurred and were deemed prudent. As soon as the area was made safe, the media would be allowed back in. In the mean time, the government would establish a video feed and supply frequent updates. The statement closed with an assurance that everything was fine - there was nothing to be alarmed about.

Despite the assurances, it was stressed throughout that disease, the unknown of a new life form, and all other manner of nasty situations could still be possible. Who knew what would happen. Bio-toxins and nerve-debilitators? Fear, as specified by the government, was the word of the day. Anything with a hyphen that sounded bad was still on the table.
